Correspondent, 23 October: Fifteen-year-old left-handed Indian batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi could receive a major opportunity to feature in the second T20 match against New Zealand. According to various media reports, an injury to premier batter Ishan Kishan may serve as a jackpot for Suryavanshi, paving the way for his return to the Indian team after a considerable gap.
Following India's victory in the first T20 encounter in Christchurch, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak gave clear indications regarding Suryavanshi's potential participation. While responding to a question asked by RevSportz, Kotak provided clarity on the team's lineup. "Ishan Kishan has a minor thigh muscle injury, which is why Tilak Varma was promoted to number three in the batting order," Kotak stated. He further explained, "As a precautionary measure, the chances of Ishan playing in the second T20 match are low. If Ishan Kishan doesn't play, there is a good chance for Vaibhav Suryavanshi to play."
The second T20 fixture between India and New Zealand will be played at the Hagley Oval cricket stadium in Christchurch. According to received information, the match is said to be held on February 24, though the report also notes that the fixture is mentioned to take place on Saturday, October 24. Similar to the series opener, the toss will occur at 12:00 PM, with actual play beginning at 12:30 PM.
Meanwhile, the Indian team has made a promising start to the series by winning the first T20 match in Christchurch by four wickets. Replicating this winning performance in the upcoming matches will make India's path to a series victory easier. Suryavanshi is known to create a stir with his performances whenever he steps onto the field, making his potential selection for the second match a significant treat for the fans.
