Correspondent, 23 October: India secured a victory in the first game of their ongoing five-match T20 series against New Zealand. After delivering an explosive innings to claim the 'Player of the Match' award, Sanju Samson spoke candidly about his mental state and the pressure associated with being an Indian cricketer.
Addressing the stress caused by a packed schedule, Samson stated, "We find happiness in keeping this pressure aside and continuing to play for the country. The more we get to play, the better it is. We are currently at a stage in our careers where stepping onto the field to play for the country brings us more joy, and therefore I am very excited."
Samson previously toured New Zealand in 2020, managing to score just 10 runs across three matches during that visit. When questioned about how he manages pressure now compared to the past, he explained, "You have to find your own method and mental state. Everyone has their own mantras to stay in the best mental frame. It took me some time to find this, but now I can say that I have found my way to enjoy the game."
The batter had also delivered an outstanding performance in the recently concluded T20 series against the West Indies, where he smashed two explosive half-centuries. Both the Indian team and fans are now anticipating similarly impactful innings from him in the remaining matches against New Zealand.
Meanwhile, the first T20 match also revealed a new match-winner for India in the form of Naman Dhir. Dhir played a brief but highly crucial knock, scoring 42 runs from a mere 15 deliveries, which provided substantial support to the Indian squad.
