Correspondent, 19 October: Following his continuous omission from the Indian squad, Rinku Singh has delivered a strong response to the selection committee with a stellar performance in the Ranji Trophy. After being overlooked for the upcoming series against New Zealand, his explosive batting has drawn the direct attention of the BCCI.
Rinku made a significant impact playing for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket's premier tournament by scoring consecutive centuries. During the current Ranji season, he registered a magnificent 112 runs against Bihar, which he followed up with an unbeaten 118 runs against Goa.
In the match against Goa, Uttar Pradesh found themselves in a precarious situation, struggling at 33 runs for the loss of three wickets. Stepping up as a savior, Rinku guided his team past the 200-run mark, striking 11 boundaries and two sixes on his way to an unbeaten hundred.
Prior to these developments, the T20 series between India and the West Indies recently concluded in a 2-2 draw. Now, India is set to begin a Test, ODI, and T20 series against New Zealand. Rinku has been excluded from the national setup since the T20 series against Zimbabwe. His continued absence from the New Zealand tour prompted fans to raise numerous questions on social media.
Rinku possesses a highly impressive record in first-class cricket. Across 77 innings in 54 matches, he has accumulated 3,869 runs at an average of 59.52, featuring 10 centuries and 23 half-centuries. Furthermore, in 70 List A matches, he has scored 2,418 runs at an average of 52.56, including two centuries and 21 half-centuries.
The series between India and New Zealand is scheduled to commence on October 22, 2026. Following this consistent display in domestic cricket, it remains to be seen whether Rinku will receive an opportunity in the Indian team in the future.
