Correspondent, 26 October: Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray has expressed strong opposition to the large-scale tree felling being carried out for a hydroelectric project by the 'Torrent Power' company in Karjat, Raigad district. Taking an aggressive stance on the issue, he will personally visit the project site today to review the situation.
The ongoing deforestation in the Karjat-Bhimashankar region has also met with fierce resistance from youth leader Vivekanand Patil. Patil, who gained prominence during the MPSC agitation in Pune, is well-known for his speeches delivered in a rustic Kolhapuri dialect.
In a separate matter, the Bombay High Court will conduct a hearing today (October 26) on a petition filed by actor Imran Khan, who was issued a notice to leave the country following a political agitation. Police authorities have directed him to depart from India by October 28.
Challenging the directive, Khan's lawyers have claimed that no criminal offense has been registered against the actor. Furthermore, the court has issued instructions to make the state government a respondent in this case.
