Correspondent, 24 October: Young cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made history during the second game of the ongoing five-match T20 series between India and New Zealand. Earning a spot in the playing eleven due to an injury to Ishan Kishan, Suryavanshi established a major record the moment he stepped onto the field in New Zealand.
At just 15 years and 211 days of age, Vaibhav has become the youngest male cricketer to play an international match on New Zealand soil. With this unique achievement, he has surpassed players from Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Previously, this record belonged to Bangladesh's Mohammad Sharif, who was 16 years and 6 days old while playing in the Hamilton Test on December 18, 2001. In terms of age, Vaibhav has also overtaken Pakistan's Aaqib Javed (16 years and 185 days) and Sachin Tendulkar, who was 16 years and 284 days old at the time of his international debut.
During the second T20 match, India won the toss and decided to bowl first. Captain Shreyas Iyer stated, "Ishan Kishan is injured. Therefore, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been included in the playing eleven. Vaibhav will come to bat at number three. In this very match, Prince Yadav and Mayank got an opportunity." The BCCI also shared information regarding this through its official X (Twitter) account.
India currently holds a 1-0 lead in the series, having secured a victory in the first match by successfully chasing down a challenging target of 226 runs.
The Indian playing eleven features Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Shreyas Iyer (captain), Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dhir, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Prince Yadav.
