Correspondent, 21 October: Former Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur delivered an explosive unbeaten 91-run performance in the third T20 match against Zimbabwe. However, an emotional incident unfolded during a mid-innings interview. A widely circulated video shows an initially smiling Kaur suddenly breaking down into bitter tears, throwing the microphone in anger, and walking back to the pavilion.
The emotional outburst occurred during her first interview since stepping down from the team's captaincy. Prior to the interview, she showcased her aggressive batting skills on the field, smashing 91 runs off only 41 deliveries. Her innings, featuring 10 boundaries and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 221.95, propelled the Indian team to a massive total of 216 for 7.
The unexpected post-interview reaction surprised many observers. Sharing a video of the incident on October 20, 2026, Radhika Deshikachar highlighted how deeply the decision to relinquish the captaincy had affected her. Deshikachar wrote, "What could never be expressed in words, Harman's emotions are telling. I need some time to compose myself."
The Indian women's team is now being led by Smriti Mandhana. Under her new leadership, the team secured a clean sweep by winning all three T20 matches against Zimbabwe, marking India's first series victory with Mandhana as captain.
In addition to Kaur's 91-run knock in the third match, Shafali Verma contributed a crucial innings of 69 runs. On the bowling side, Nandini Sharma led the attack by claiming three wickets. Bowlers Kranti Gaud, Arundhati Reddy, Nikki Prasad, and Deepti Sharma each took one wicket to help secure the team's victory.
