Correspondent, 20 October: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Pragyan Ojha as the full-time chief selector. Alongside him, Ramesh Powar has also been included in the Indian team's selection committee. However, Ojha's appointment to this position is not solely focused on selecting players; he has been entrusted with the major responsibility of bridging the gap between senior players and the team management.
The BCCI has also handed Ojha the crucial task of resolving the ongoing differences between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Previously, Ojha played alongside both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the Indian national team. Furthermore, he featured alongside Rohit for the Deccan Chargers franchise in the IPL. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, Ojha shares excellent relationships with current senior players, and the BCCI's strategy aims to leverage these bonds for the betterment of the team.
Presently, reports indicate numerous disputes between the coaching committee and senior players within the Indian setup. Ojha's role will involve easing this tense environment and establishing friendly relations. Following his elevation to chief selector, he also faces significant challenges. With the 2027 ODI World Cup stated to be less than a year away, finding a solution to poor bowling performances over the next year will be the biggest headache for the selection committee.
