Correspondent, 15 October: While Bollywood’s romantic songs featuring actresses in chiffon sarees dancing amidst snow-capped mountains captivate audiences, the reality behind the camera can be grueling. The visually appealing scenes of a fluttering saree, radiant smiles, and on-screen romance often mask the physical toll taken on the artists. Around 26 years ago, actress Madhuri Dixit endured a remarkably difficult ordeal while filming the song ‘Kismat Se Tum Humko Mile’ for the movie ‘Pukar’.
The track, featuring Dixit alongside Anil Kapoor, was shot on a glacier in the snowy mountains of Alaska. Surrounded entirely by snow, Dixit was dressed in only a single light-colored chiffon saree for the duration of the song. In stark contrast, Kapoor layered multiple jackets one over the other to protect himself from the severe cold.
Dixit recounted the experience in an interview, noting that as the shoot extended into the evening, the cold intensified massively. When choreographer Farah Khan asked her to lip-sync to the track, the bone-chilling temperatures left Dixit in a terrible state. Her lips refused to move and literally began turning blue. Observing her worsening condition, a doctor present at the location advised an immediate halt to the shoot.
Filming for the remaining portions of the song resumed the following day, this time with special precautions implemented to keep Dixit warm. A heater was arranged to combat the cold, and the moment a scene was completed, a crew member would quickly rush over to wrap her in a blanket.
Actor Anil Kapoor also shared an anecdote regarding the shoot during an appearance on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. He revealed that a helicopter was brought in to generate the wind required to make Dixit’s saree fly in the air. The wind from the helicopter only compounded the actress’s distress. Although the track remains a beloved romantic favorite for couples from the 90s, the process of filming the beautiful sequence was an equally difficult situation.
